ORRO: Revolutionizing Bus Exchange System

A New Concept in Urban Transportation

Innovative Design to Ease Congestion and Improve Efficiency

In rush hour, bus stations are often congested with numerous buses and a large crowd of passengers. This not only leads to traffic congestion but also hampers the efficiency of the entire urban transportation system. To address this issue, Ding Jian, Cao Weizhi, and Ji Zexu have come up with a groundbreaking solution - ORRO, a revolutionary bus exchange system.

ORRO is a new way of bus exchange that aims to reduce regional congestion caused by buses. The design features vehicles and platforms with the same hemicycle structure. Passengers from inside and outside the bus can enter the semicircle space station in advance. Once the vehicles reach the specified location, the vehicle and the station form a cylinder and rotate 180°, completing the exchange of passengers. This innovative system reduces the actual vehicle parked time to just 15 seconds, significantly improving the efficiency of public transportation.

The implementation of ORRO involves the exchange of necessary information between the station and the bus terminal. This includes the location of the vehicle, speed, transfer numbers, and waiting information. As the bus approaches the station, signals on the platform guide the bus to dock accurately.

The ORRO system comprises semicircle spaces with a diameter of 3 meters. Each car has two semicircle spaces, and each bus station has four. Careful consideration has been given to the number and size of transfer spaces to ensure sufficient space for passengers while maximizing the efficiency of vehicle capacity.

The ORRO bus exchange system operates in a simple and efficient manner. Passengers inside or outside the bus enter the waiting area before the vehicles arrive. When the bus stops, passengers can easily exchange with the space vehicles. Once the bus leaves and the exchange process is complete, passengers can prepare for their next exchange.

The concept for ORRO was designed in November 2016 and is still under development. The design team, including Ding Jian, Cao Weizhi, Ji Zexu, Li Changhan, and Shang Siyuan, has overcome various creative, technical, and research challenges to bring this innovative concept to life.

ORRO has garnered recognition and accolades for its ingenuity and contribution to improving the quality of life. In 2017, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Vehicle, Mobility, and Transportation Design category. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology.

The ORRO bus exchange system offers a promising solution to the challenges of urban transportation. By reducing congestion and improving efficiency, it has the potential to transform the way we commute and enhance the overall urban lifestyle.
